First settled by European settlers in the 1840s and the Gold Rush brought gold miners to the township during the Victorian Gold Rush. The first vines were planted by the Best brothers. After Joseph Best’s death in 1888, the vineyard was purchased by Hans Irvine.
Hans Irvine was instrumental in Australian Wine History, developing the underground cellars and pioneering Sparkling Shiraz.
Today, you can explore the cellars, museum and taste the award-winning Great Western wines.
